Phoenix Court Group

To launch a new brand for a growing family of venture capital funds and a new charitable foundation from some of Europe’s most prominent early-stage investors

Challenge

To launch Phoenix Court Group – the new name for the growing family of venture capital funds (LocalGlobe, Latitude, Solar, Basecamp) and a charitable foundation from renowned investors Saul and Robin Klein – while announcing €500m of new funds across the group.

Action

Introducing Phoenix Court Group officially to media, founders and LPs was the culmination of years of work developing a narrative around the funds whose headquarters is Phoenix Court in Somers Town, close to St Pancras. Linking the funds, the headquarters and the charitable foundation, is a strong sense of location and mission to be a good neighbour. We leaned into this narrative to position Phoenix Court Group as a thoughtful, values-driven leader of European innovation and investment. Using data and third party proof points, we developed the story of growing tech opportunity across a vast region – New Palo Alto – reachable by a four hour train journey from St Pancras. This wider industry story was also used as the centre-piece of a well-attended London Tech Week event. In this way, we were able to differentiate Phoenix Court Group as both leading a trend of investing in Europe but also unique in its approach to Europe – especially in placing a high value on governance, ethical leadership and systemic innovation in venture capital.

Result

The story of Phoenix Court Group’s rebranding and its new fund was covered by leading tech titles including TechCrunch, Sifted, Tech.Eu, Fortune and Forbes, as well as by the Financial Times and Sky News. Social media coverage, amplified by the partners and journalists, helped build lots of momentum around the story. Dealflow has increased sharply on the back of the announcements and partners report a strong association with the organisation’s values from potential new recruits who they have interviewed.
